Influence of Host Species on the Initial Growth and Development of Sandal (Santalum album Linn.)

Sandal is known to grow vigorously in association with certain preferred host plants. Studies on the influence of 15 host plants on the initial growth and development of sandal have been dealt in this paper. Casuarina have been found most suitable host species followed by Terminalia, Albizia, Dalbergia and Psidium was found unfavourable for sandal growth. It has been also found that some combinations have synergistic effect while some other showed allelopathic effects.
