Kinkin Yuliaty Subarsa Putri, Dini Nur Fadhillah, Marisa Puspita Sary, Edi PrihantoroPurpose
This study aims to analyse the influence of health communication literacy on e-cigarette use among university students.
Design/methodology/approach
The quantitative approach was chosen by the researcher as a research method because it helps to understand based on experience to solve problems related to the influence of health communication literacy on e-cigarette use attitudes in higher education. Data processing in this study used a simple linear regression analysis model.
Findings
The findings of this study indicate that health literacy is a determining factor for success and progress in the field of individual health. This is because students’ understanding of health communication literacy can improve their knowledge. Unfortunately, the barriers to achieving an adequate level of health literacy depend on the selection of information resources used.
Research limitations/implications
This study has limitations in research methods. Researchers have not been able to conduct in-depth analyses related to the impact felt by e-cigarette smokers. Given the age of college students still experience vulnerability in starting and continuing e-cigarettes. Thus, they need to be instructed and warned.
Practical implications
This research has implications for the benefits of health communication for students in higher education related to e-cigarettes. Thus, it can be a basis for academics to be able to develop health communication strategies as a preventive measure for the younger generation in minimising the use of e-cigarettes.
Originality/value
Generally, previous studies discuss the use of e-cigarettes as an alternative to drug therapy but there are minimal studies that discuss the influence of health communication literacy on e-cigarette use. Moreover, health communication is generally associated with patients and diseases.
