Abstract

Aim:

To evaluate the wettability of GuttaFlow Bioseal sealer on intraradicular dentin following the use of different chelating agents after irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) using contact angle analysis.

Methodology:

Sixty extracted single-rooted human mandibular premolars with fully developed apices were selected, cleaned, decoronated, and longitudinally sectioned. One standardized section from each tooth was used for analysis and randomly assigned to four groups ( n = 15) according to the final irrigation protocol: 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), 7% maleic acid (MA), QMix, and distilled water, each preceded by 2.5% NaOCl. A 0.1-mL droplet of GuttaFlow Bioseal sealer was placed on each dentin surface, and the contact angle was measured using a dynamic contact angle analyzer.

Results:

Significant differences in wettability were observed among the groups. QMix showed the lowest contact angle and highest wettability, whereas EDTA and MA demonstrated comparable results.

Conclusion:

Chelating agents enhanced the wettability of GuttaFlow Bioseal sealer on intraradicular dentin, with QMix demonstrating the most favorable effect.
