In-gap states enhance the hydroxylation of c (6 × 2) terminated SrTiO 3

Marie Neumann, Virginia Pérez-Dieste, Jan P. Hofmann

For SrO-terminated SrTiO 3 , shifting E F closer to the CBM by Nb-doping and reduction leads to enhanced surface hydroxylation. This is attributed to higher surface basicity and favourable downward band bending, due to in-gap states close to E F .
