Importance of biofilms for the microbial ecology of cooling towers and Legionella diversity

Microbial communities were cooling tower-specific, with higher bacterial diversity in biofilm than in water. L. pneumophila was detected in both biofilm and water samples, with Echinamoeba uniquely present in L. pneumophila culture-positive systems.
