Dental implants have grown in popularity as a treatment methodology with both patients and clinicians. As more dentists choose to offer this, it is imperative that along with general clinical skills an awareness and understanding of the complications that may arise is disseminated. Furthermore, with more patients presenting at various stages of their implant treatment journeys, there is a broad spectrum of complications that may arise. When considering urgent and emergency scenarios that may present within implantology, it is not always possible for patients to access their usual clinical teams, therefore, all clinicians who might receive these patients should have a basic awareness of complications and of the treatments that may have been performed. This article explores some of the more common treatment scenarios with which patients may present, and the typical complications that arise.
