Impacted supernumerary premolar causing external root resorption of mandibular first molar
Neha Hajira, Pulkit KhandelwalAbstract
External root resorption (ERR) is a pathological process that can occur secondary to certain factors such as infection, trauma, pressure, or orthodontic tooth movement. It causes pain, swelling, and mobility of the affected tooth. Treatment includes endodontic treatment or the extraction of the offending tooth. Here, we present a case of ERR in a 38-year-old female patient who reported with pain in relation to the lower left first molar tooth. An intraoral periapical radiograph revealed the presence of a supernumerary premolar causing pressure root resorption of the tooth. The treatment plan was to extract the tooth, followed by orthodontic extrusion of the supernumerary premolar.
