Impact of Work from Home on Employees’ Productivity in IT Sectors within the Indian Context
Tapas Roy, Mithun Das, Swarnali Chatterjee, Rajesh DasThe COVID-19 pandemic brought a profound transformation in workplace practices, making work from home (WFH) an essential mode of employment, particularly in India’s information technology (IT) sector. This study aims to analytically examine the experiences, satisfaction, and performance of IT employees working from home during the pandemic, with particular emphasis on productivity, communication, leadership, time management, and work-related stress. Primary data were collected from 50 employees working in more than seven reputed IT companies through a structured online questionnaire administered using Google Forms. The collected data were analysed using descriptive and statistical techniques, including Mean, Median, Mode, Standard Deviation, and Correlation analysis. The findings indicate that WFH improved productivity and provided greater flexibility for many employees; however, it also created challenges related to time management, work-related stress, communication, and maintaining an appropriate work–life balance. Regular communication, managerial support, performance feedback, and continuous evaluation were found to enhance employee motivation and team collaboration. The study provides empirical insights into employee satisfaction and changing work experiences in India’s IT sector during the pandemic. It also highlights the need for organizations to strengthen digital infrastructure, managerial communication, employee support mechanisms, and flexible work policies to ensure effective and sustainable remote or hybrid working environments. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with remote work and provide practical implications for organizations designing future workplace strategies.
