Impact of Dynamic Occlusion on LED ‐Based Visible Light Communication for Monitoring Moving Farmed Fish

Our research group is developing a farmed fish monitoring system utilizing visible light communication with LEDs attached to fish. This study evaluates the impact of dynamic occlusion caused by moving fish schools on communication performance through 3D simulations. By modeling 1000 fish using the Boids algorithm, we clarify how camera quantity, placement, and transmission frequency influence data gathering rates. Simulation results demonstrate that while single‐camera setups are insufficient, strategic deployment of multiple cameras enables practical monitoring even in occluded environments. © 2026 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC.
