Immediate cutaneous reaction to linezolid

Abstract:

Linezolid is less commonly associated with hypersensitivity reactions than β-lactams or glycopeptides, yet rare acute cutaneous reactions do occur and warrant clinical vigilance. We report a 27-year-old female with no known comorbidities who developed acute facial swelling, erythema, intense pruritus, and erythematous papular lesions over the neck, right upper limb, and abdomen within minutes of initiating oral linezolid for a hot water burn injury. Symptoms persisted despite initial outpatient management but resolved rapidly after drug discontinuation and targeted inpatient therapy. Preventing escalation requires early identification, prompt treatment, and the removal of the offending agent.
