Abstract

Plessner's Limits of Community as contribution to a normative Philosophy. Helmuth Plessner did not write an explicit book on ethics. Nevertheless, his writings on political philosophy contain reflections that are convincing only against the backdrop of strong normative assumptions. These assumptions have not yet been the subject of sufficient systematic investigation. This article reconstructs the normative assumptions underlying Plessner's early work ‚Limits of Community‘, traces the logic of the connection between normative assumptions and normative implications, and attempts to situate this reconstruction within the context of normative philosophy. The result is a picture in which Plessner is quite close to Kantian moral philosophy.
