Editorial Commentary : Basketball Players Return to Sport at a High Rate—Now We Must Embrace the Challenge of Reporting Longer‐Term Outcomes and Identifying Predisposing Factors for Hip Pathology!
Riley Hemstock, Olufemi R. AyeniAbstract
Athletes of all kinds, including basketball players, undergoing hip arthroscopy have been shown to have generally good outcomes and return to sport at a high rate. This information is valuable to surgeons and athletes alike, allowing a more informed position at the outset of potential surgery. To continue advancing our field, an emphasis on developing our understanding of long‐term outcomes, assessing player performance once returned, identifying athletes at risk, and potentially preventing progression to symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement will enhance decision‐making.
