Animal Ethics and Animal Law : Examining the Struggles to Implement an Ethical Legal System for Other Animals
Joan E. SchaffnerAbstract
Animal Ethics and Animal Law brings together scholars from around the world to explore the intersection between animal ethics and animal law, confront some of the most pressing moral issues involving our treatment of animals, and consider how the law might better protect their interests. The book is structured into three parts: historical perspectives, ethical-legal issues, and case studies. This review article briefly summarizes the chapters in each part and highlights the book's contribution in depicting the difficulties of implementing an ethical system for other animals within the constraints of a fundamentally flawed legal regime.
