Hydrogenation of CO 2 to Alcohols Over Metal–Organic Frameworks‐Based Catalysts

Production of green alcohols obtained from CO 2 and green H 2 is a highly desirable process due to its ideal characteristics of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and producing valuable chemicals. The present review highlights the opportunities that metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) may offer for the selective hydrogenation of CO 2 to alcohols (particularly to methanol and ethanol). This article briefly summarizes the relevance based on the roles of MOFs, including serving as providers of active sites or supports for active metal nanoparticles (NPs), and reviews the related catalytic mechanisms. Emphasis is placed on demonstrating how the design and synthetic flexibility of MOFs can be utilized to enhance catalytic activity by tuning the metal node composition and ligand linker structure.
