Humanizing the Experience: A Framework for Centering Black Male College Students

This chapter explores the critical role of humanization in fostering success among Black male students within community college settings. Grounded in my Humanization Framework, this chapter blends personal narrative, professional practice, and research-informed strategies to illuminate how empathy-driven, relational, and culturally responsive practices can disrupt systemic barriers and foster belonging. Reflecting on my experiences as a higher education administrator and advocate, I offer actionable guidance for practitioners, faculty, and policymakers committed to equity, justice, and transformative student experiences.
