How Much Forest Does Man Need?

Rudolph Stahelin

Abstract

The central part of western Europe contains a large block of densely settled, industrially developed countries with similar timber requirements and growing conditions. Here, self-sufficiency in industrial wood appears to depend on a forested area of at least two-thirds acre per capita. These countries offer interesting comparisons of self-sufficiency in industrial wood.
