How green is the green HRM: navigating the landscape through bibliometric insights

Green Human Resource Management (Green HRM) is increasingly recognised as a strategic imperative for advancing sustainable business practices and fostering organisational environmental responsibility. Where is the field heading, and who is leading the way – trend (authors, keywords and countries)? This study aims to comprehensively review the Green HRM literature and identify its potential through bibliometric analysis.
Design/methodology/approach
This study analysed 950 documents extracted from the Scopus database using VOSviewer and Publish or Perish. Only “articles” and “reviews” from “English” language are included using keywords, namely, GHRM, Green HRM, Green workforce, etc.
Findings
The publication’s annual growth exceeds 45% per annum. Analyses show that authors like Jabbour CJC and Yusliza MY are the two highest-cited and most publishing authors. Other influential authors include Renwick DWS, Ramayah T, etc. Asian countries, namely, China, Pakistan and Malaysia are the most publishing and highest-cited countries. Other influential countries include India, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom and France.
Originality/value
This study offers a data-rich and comprehensive overview of the Green HRM research landscape. It uses advanced bibliometric techniques such as: co-authorship, citation, keyword co-occurrence, bibliographic coupling and co-citation analysis to uncover key publication trends, influential authors and journals, country-level insights and emerging topics.
