How Confucian Values are Reflected in K-pop and C-pop in Argentina
María del Valle GuerraAbstract
Mentioning Confucius’ philosophy often refers to the past. Scholars cite sources, systematize the lines of thought, and even evaluate empirical developments of its scope. However, it is worth asking how closely each one of us can follow the path of the good and great man proposed by Confucius so long ago. The present analysis confirms its presence and importance from a remote country such as Argentina. Appreciating the Confucian imprint has an indisputable reach. The impact of this is tangible both quantitatively and qualitatively and is present among groups of young fans who encourage their own families to share the same feeling. The fact spreads through the current musical culture coming from both South Korea and China in all its extension. Recognized as K-pop and C-pop, it is possible to experience how the values promoted by the great master of China are present even in daily life. Through the study of contemporary cases and the exhaustive analysis of events (which are grouped under the name “Hallyu”) throughout the Argentine territory, the common phenomenon to be followed in all its dimensions without resistance is made visible. The love for family, friends, and neighbors, and respect for the elderly are present in daily life. Also the importance of study (and even the awareness) of finitude that makes the individual a full man who knows how to recognize his own strengthes and weaknesses. Space is relative; time is relative. But space-time as a whole is concrete and scientific fact. It is along that same line that the present work analyzes the validity, plenitude and importance of the Confucian values transmitted to K-poppers and C-poppers in the world, although particularly in Argentina.
