“How Can I, Unless Someone Guides Me?”

Zoe Strong

Cultures in faith communities where regular Bible reading is expected can create boundaries which exclude dyslexic Christians. There is currently a lack of understanding within theology and Christian communities of the challenges that dyslexic individuals face, particularly regarding mental health. Through autoethnographic reflections, the article offers insight into how boundaries are created and how they may be dismantled to support the authentic thriving of dyslexic individuals. Dyslexic people often need and want help, but their voices also need to be valued. The place to start is by offering unimposing help grounded in listening to and understanding the dyslexic experience, supporting discovery (or rediscovery) of what authentic dyslexic Bible engagement looks like to them, and valuing dyslexic interpretations of the Bible.
