Homage to “Mr. Brucker’s Good Girl”: An Autobiographical Journey to Learn How to Unlearn
Jungah Kim-KiteishviliAbstract
In 1992, Janet Miller published an article titled “Mr. Brucker’s Good Girl,” one which appeared in revised form in Sounds of Silence Breaking: Women, Autobiography, Curriculum 13 years later. “Mr. Brucker’s Good Girl” provides in narrative form what she ventured to sketch her thoughts on how gender affects the educational process into forms of autobiographical inquiry. This essay is the author’s autobiographical response to the direction those thoughts might have taken in terms of how race affects the learning self in ways that interrogate racialized constructions of what is regarded as “academic” writing.
