Wilton T. Anderson

Abstract

The author of this article, who is a professor and chairman of the Accounting Department at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, presents information about his life and career. Ever since he started teaching at the college level, he has attempted to influence superior students to select accounting as a career. The more important factors affecting success include the abilities to communicate effectively, to think logically, to get along well with and to organize the efforts of others. Self-discipline and motivation are also very important. Venturesome, goal-oriented people who use carefully planned time budgets and are willing to accept opportunities and avoid procrastination are premium prospects. When he found students with several of these attributes, he spent time with them to explain how they could succeed in and enjoy a career in accounting. An accounting administrator needs to make a periodic appraisal of himself and his success. He focused on personal traits and attributes while making these appraisals.
