Handbook on Games and Cognitive Health for Seniors
Ivan Močnik, Cristina Mourão Steiger Garção, Michelle Zühlke KnudsenWith the rapidly aging population, health issues such as cognitive decline and dementia are gaining importance on a global scale. This handbook, developed as part of the “Active Brain Games for Seniors” project supported by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, aims to support the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals aged 65 and older. The guide combines nine digital games—which require no installation and enhance memory, attention, and analytical thinking—with physical games that strengthen motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and social interaction, all presented with detailed step-by-step instructions.
The guide does more than simply provide game instructions; it serves as a comprehensive resource covering technical, pedagogical, and psychosocial preparation processes for instructors, caregivers, and facilitators, as well as sensitive approaches during implementation and observation and evaluation tools. Supporting a journey toward healthy and active aging, this work serves as a practical reference resource not only for nursing homes and care centers but also for families.
