Hammond on Socialist Revolution: A Survey of China’s History Through Political Economy
Linda Matar
This review article examines Ken Hammond’s
China’s Revolution and the Quest for a Socialist Future
, which offers a historical interpretation of China’s 1949 revolution and its subsequent socialist transformation through a political economy lens. The book argues that the Chinese revolutionary project represents a historically progressive process that continues to shape China’s contemporary development, as reflected in its ongoing socialist achievements. Ultimately, Hammond contends that this trajectory remains oriented toward the long-term realization of a modern socialist future.
