Halogenated Polyetherpolyol IXOL for Rigid Cellular PUR Materials with Improved Flame Retardancy

The use of rigid PUR foams as insulating materials is becoming more and more accepted in building, transport and industrial fields because of the advantages they have over other materials. However, poly-urethane foams are organic materials and will therefore burn. Use of halogenated polyols like IXOL in lieu of classical polyols in PUR formulations improves the fine properties of these foams.
Results on different fire tests are presented. Trials have been made in realistic configurations, for example full-scale corner tests in order to have a better idea of the flame retardation obtained with IXOL based foams.
