Guarantee of Minister Hamid bin Al-Abbas And Its Impact on the Economic Conditions During the Time of Caliph Al-Muqtadir (306-311 AH/ 918-923 AD)
Adnan Abdullah ObaidatABSTRACT This study aims to shed light on an important phase in the decline of the Abbasid state, specifically during the reignof Al- Muqtadir (295-320 AH/ 908 AD-932AD). This period witnessed intensified competition for the position of minister. Amid his rivalry, Hamid bin Al-Abbas assumed the ministry in the year 306 AH/ 918 AD, despite having no knowledge of politics and governance and no prior involvement in the political struggles of the time. The study seeks to examine the political and economic circumstances that led to his appointment, and to demonstrate how from the first days of his appointment, he was unable to manage the responsibility of his office. This study employed the historical approach, analyzing historical accounts to identify the circumstances that led to Hamid bin Al-Abbas appointment as minister and his monopolization of guarantees. It also used the descriptive approach to explain his relationship with his competitors. The study concluded that the poor political conditions and the weakness of the Caliph Al-Muqtadir were what led to the marriage of money with power and monopoly. The study recommends that researchers devote greater attention tothis period and further investigate the impact of the poor economic conditions on the weakening of the Abbasid state.
