Growth hormone deficiency: Update on the diagnosis and management

M. Reshma, I. Riaz

Abstract

Growth hormone deficiency diagnosis in children integrates clinical auxology, history, exam, and labs like IGF-1/IGFBP-3 screening and GHST. Test children with severe short stature (>3 SD below mean), poor height velocity, or signs of pituitary dysfunction; confirm via 2 GH stimulation tests (clonidine, glucagon, insulin) unless contraindicated. MRI assesses pituitary anatomy; treat with recombinant GH (0.16-0.24 mg/kg/week SC) monitoring height/IGF-1. Long-acting options likesomatrogon reduce injections.
