Green
HRM
in the Age of Industry 5.0: A Systematic Review
R. Sethuraman, Shobitha Poulose ABSTRACT
Amid rising global environmental challenges coupled with societal disruptions, organizations are under increasing pressure from all directions to implement responsible initiatives. This study employs a systematic literature review (SLR) following the PRISMA protocol to examine how Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) can help to tackle these challenges by incorporating the principles of Industry 5.0. The literature search was conducted in Scopus and Web of Science (WoS), yielding an initial sample of 1766 articles in August 2025, which were subsequently screened and analyzed based on predefined inclusion criteria. A total of 78 peer‐reviewed studies revealed a fragmented linkage between GHRM and Industry 5.0, despite their strong potential for synergy. The findings indicate that GHRM can act as a strategic enabler of Industry 5.0 by supporting human‐centricity, sustainability, and resilience, while also highlighting the importance of enabling technologies (ET) and human–machine collaboration (HMC) in this context. Building on these insights, this paper introduces GHRM 5.0, defined as an advanced GHRM approach in which GHRM drives the pillars of Industry 5.0, supported by ET and HMC. This conceptual framework redefines the strategic role of Human Resource Management (HRM) in shaping a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future within an increasingly unstable, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment. By doing so, the study strengthens theoretical insights and offers practical recommendations, along with future directions for scholars, managers, and policymakers to address emerging global challenges through GHRM initiatives.
