Green accounting as support for decision-making in strategic management

Nedeljko Babić, Danijela Parojčić

Green accounting represents a modern accounting approach that encompasses the recording, monitoring, and analysis of environmental costs and the impacts of business activities on the environment. In the context of increasingly stringent requirements for sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, its application has become an important instrument supporting strategic management in the process of business decision-making. The aim of this paper is to analyze the role and significance of green accounting in the development of long-term business strategies, risk management, cost optimization, and the improvement of firms' competitive position. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship between green accounting, the concept of sustainable business practices, ESG standards, and contemporary regulatory requirements. The results of the analysis indicate that the integration of environmental information into accounting and management processes contributes to higher-quality strategic decision-making, greater business transparency, and the long-term sustainability of organizations.
