Graphene in Prosthetic Dentistry – A Review
Aaron Gissy Baby, Annapoorni Hariharan, Bhavani Roopan Vijayakumar, K. Thanya, C. ThamaraiGraphene, a two-dimensional carbon nanomaterial, has gained attention in prosthodontics for its exceptional mechanical and biological properties. Incorporating graphene into polymethyl methacrylate has shown excellent results when it comes to mechanical and biological aspects. In implantology, graphene coatings have shown to increase its osseointegration and biocompatibility. Despite these advantages, there are certain challenges that arise at higher concentrations of graphene and its derivatives. Graphene holds promise for improving prosthetic restorations and implants. This review article explores the various aspects of graphene and its derivatives and its applications in prosthetic dentistry, including graphene oxide (GO) and reduced GO in removable, fixed, and implant prosthodontics.
