Geographic diversity in top dermatology journal editorial boards
Nancy Anabaraonye, Georgiana L McTigue, Ailin He, Vivian Zhao, Vinod E NambudiriThe geographic distribution of editorial board members across the top 20 dermatology journals by 2024 impact factor was assessed, encompassing 1,439 editors from 65 countries. Editorial board membership was heavily concentrated in Europe and North America, with over 83% of members affiliated with high-income countries and minimal representation from low- and lower-middle-income regions, despite these regions bearing a disproportionate burden of skin disease. These findings highlight persistent structural inequities in dermatologic publishing and underscore the need for intentional strategies to improve geographic diversity and global collaboration within editorial leadership.
