Genome-Wide Characterization of the CAMTA Gene Family in Paulownia fortunei and Potential Role of PfCAMTA5 in Salt-Stress Responses
Yabing Cao, He Sun, Chunyang Liu, Jie Liu, Shenquan Cao, Zhenli ZhaoCalmodulin-binding transcription activator (CAMTA) transcription factors play key roles in plant stress responses, but their functions in Paulownia fortunei remain largely unknown. Here, we identified eight CAMTA family genes in P. fortunei and investigated their structural features, evolutionary relationships, and expression patterns under salt stress. All PfCAMTA proteins contain the conserved CG-1, ANK, and IQ domains, although their gene structures and physicochemical properties differ. Phylogenetic and synteny analyses revealed close paralogous pairs and orthologous relationships with Arabidopsis CAMTAs. Under salt stress, the eight PfCAMTA genes displayed distinct tissue-specific expression patterns, with PfCAMTA5 emerging as the most prominent salt-responsive candidate, showing broad induction across tissues and the highest transcript abundance. Molecular docking and Y2H assays suggested a potential interaction between PfCAMTA5 and the salt-responsive calcium sensor PfCML28. Transient overexpression of PfCAMTA5
