Generative Artificial Intelligence Role in Mitigating Supply Chain Disruption Risks and Enhancing Green Supply Chain Performance: Evidence from the Middle East Region
Ywana Maher Lamey BadrousThere is still a scarcity in literature about Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) impacts on green supply chain performance (GSCP) and supply chain disruption risks (SCDR), especially in the Middle East (ME) region. It is a pioneering study that empirically illustrates the linkage between GenAI, GSCP, and SCDR, considering supply chain resilience (SCRes) as a mediator based on dynamic capability view (DCV) and information processing theory (IPT) in the ME’s emerging countries. Through designing a structured survey and utilizing a random sampling technique, primary data was gathered from 420 participants from different manufacturing firms. The hypotheses were tested through utilizing structural equation modelling (SEM) and the results indicated that GenAI has positive and significant effects on SCRes and GSCP and negative and significant impacts on SCDR. Moreover, SCRes positively and significantly mediated the linkage between GenAI and GSCP, but negatively and significantly mediated the association between GenAI and SCDR. Additionally, the valuable insights are offered for supply chain (SC) managers and policy makers about the necessity of investing in DTs and developing SCRes capabilities to mitigate SCDR and enhance GSCP. Also, the findings promote the collaboration between firms and governments to boost regulatory compliance for ensuring ethical utilization of AI technologies.
