GC-MS Analysis of Metabolites in Clitoria Ternatea Flowers
Ankita Chandrashekhar Ravikar, Sanghapal KshirasagarClitoria ternatea is recognized for its therapeutic properties in traditional medicine. Present study was undertaken to identify bioactive metabolites present in Clitoria ternatea flowers using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. For this purpose, the flower samples were collected, shade dried, powdered, and extracted through Soxhlet extraction unit.using methanol as a solvent. It was then subjected to GC-MS analysis to identify volatile and semi-volatile phytochemicals. The chromatogram revealed multiple peaks corresponding to various bioactive compounds including fatty acids, terpenoids, sterols, and phenolic derivatives. Major compounds detected in the extract included hexadecanoic acid, phytol, octadecanoic acid, squalene, and stigmasterol. These metabolites are known for their antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and pharmacological activities. The results confirmrd that Clitoria ternatea flowers contain diverse range of bioactive metabolites that may contribute to their medicinal properties. GC-MS analysis provides a reliable method for identifying phytochemical constituents.
