Gas‐Liquid Flow‐Induced Characteristics of Dispersed Liposome‐Based Particles

AbstractLiposomes are closed bilayers of phospholipids formed in aqueous media. The hydrodynamic property of colloidal dispersions of liposomes is one of the factors which alter the structure of liposomes. The present review article discusses the mechanistic aspects of the deformation, breakage, and fusion of liposomes in different liquid shear flows. Then, characteristic features reported with respect to the particles consisting of liposomes and bubbles are discussed to explore the role of shear flows induced by the acoustically active bubbles. Furthermore, the gas‐liquid flow‐induced characteristics of liposomes are described for their application to kinetically controllable enzymatic reactions in bubble‐column bioreactors.
