Gamification in Microlearning for Indian ESL Undergraduate Learners

Arunesh Kumar K., Hema N.
The convergence of gamification and microlearning presents innovative opportunities to enhance English as a Second Language (ESL) education. This explores the effectiveness of integrating gamification within microlearning modules for ESL undergraduate learners, focusing on their perceptions, engagement, and motivation. Leveraging the synergistic potential of game-design elements and concise learning units, this research aims to enhance language acquisition. A quantitative, non-experimental survey design was employed, gathering data from forty ESL learners in Indian higher education institution who interacted with a gamified microlearning module. The gamified microlearning significantly enhances student motivation, engagement, and confidence. Participants reported a notable increase in motivation scores post-intervention, aligning with the premise that gamification fosters active participation and enjoyable learning environments. This study concludes that gamified microlearning presents a potent pedagogical approach for ESL education, offering a dynamic, personalized, and effective path to language acquisition in undergraduate settings, provided design considerations address identified challenges.
