Fungalpedia represents an ongoing serial compendium of the Fungi and fungus-like taxa, offering comprehensive outlines and taxonomic notes of genera and higher taxa, their applications, and standardized terminologies used in mycology. This study is divided into two sections: illustrated notes on 226 basidiomycete genera and definitions for 55 terminologies related to mushroom mycelium-based biomaterials. Fungal genera were selected that were established before 2008 when the last Dictionary of the Fungi was published. Each genus entry includes information on habit and habitat, classification, morphological characteristics, genetic markers, critical analysis of taxonomic placement, beneficial roles to human and nature and clarifies discrepancies in the main fungal classification and nomenclature databases. Additionally, brief notes on their families are provided. Line drawings are provided for nearly all entries to aid identification. This study is the first formal compilation of terms commonly used in the mycelium-based biomaterial sector, featuring their definition, implications, and necessary diagrams. This effort contributes to the integration of traditional mycology and innovative and sustainable material science.
