Fundamentals of EU Financial Regulation
Veerle Colaert, Guido Ferrarini, Seraina GrünewaldAbstract
This book serves as the General Part of the Oxford EU Financial Regulation Series. It sets out the ‘fundamentals’ of EU financial regulation in two different ways. On the one hand, it presents the conceptual and institutional foundations on which European financial regulation is built, with Part I discussing the concept, sources and development of European financial regulation and Part II its institutional and supervisory architecture. On the other hand, it also functions as a treatise on European financial regulation, providing a comprehensive yet concise overview of bank and capital markets regulation, and of those aspects of insurance and pension funds regulation which are relevant for the capital markets. The book seeks to elucidate the various components of financial regulation, as well as how they fit within the overall framework and contribute to the principal objectives of European financial regulation: stability, market integrity, protection of the user of financial services, and sustainable finance. Parts III to VI of the book are organized around those four objectives.
