Full-Endoscopic Coccygectomy of an Anteriorly-Subluxated Coccyx for Post-traumatic Chronic Coccydynia on a 14-Year-old Adolescent Girl

Christian Morgenstern, Rudolf Morgenstern

Case:

A 14-year-old adolescent girl presented with chronic and intense post-traumatic coccydynia (Visual Analog Scale [VAS] 9/10, Oswestry Disability Index [ODI] 36/50) refractory to conservative treatment due to an anteriorly subluxated coccyx 2 years prior. A full-endoscopic coccygectomy was performed through an 8-mm skin incision, see Video. The patient was mobilized 4 hours postoperatively, discharged from the hospital within 24 hours, and resumed sports 4 weeks after surgery. Postoperative clinical and radiologic outcome at 1-year follow-up was excellent reporting VAS 1 and ODI 1.

Conclusion:

Full-endoscopic uniportal coccygectomy is a valid surgical alternative for refractory post-traumatic coccygodynia, reducing surgical intervention–related risks of infection, wound-healing, and postoperative pain.
