Frontline Nurse Managers' Views of Person‐Centred Management in a Private Hospital: A Qualitative Study

Aim
To explore the perceptions and experiences of frontline nurse managers regarding the person‐centred management approach.
Design
A qualitative study.
Methods
The study adopted a qualitative approach to gain an in‐depth understanding of frontline nurse managers' experiences. Data were collected through semi‐structured, in‐depth interviews between February and June 2024, and content analysis techniques were used to extract the essence of the data during analysis.
Results
Analysis of the interviews revealed three main domains reflecting the frontline nurse managers' perceptions and experiences. First, participants described employing diverse leadership styles to facilitate person‐centred management. Second, they detailed specific person‐centred management practices that they perceived as improving both employees and patient outcomes. Finally, managers highlighted the challenges they faced in implementing person‐centred management and shared the adaptive coping strategies they used to maintain person‐centred care.
Conclusion
To achieve a person‐centred management approach, frontline nurse managers apply various leadership styles to support patient, employee, and organizational outcomes. Furthermore, their ability to navigate institutional challenges through effective coping strategies is essential for sustaining person‐centred environments.
Impact
This study provides actionable insights into how frontline nurse managers experience and navigate person‐centred management. The findings suggest that adopting leadership styles and effective coping strategies can be instrumental in navigating institutional challenges. By understanding these dynamics, healthcare organizations can cultivate a supportive management culture that facilitates and sustains the delivery of high‐quality, person‐centred care.
