From Teacher to Teacher Educator: A Journey in Friendship and Conversation

Kristy A. Brugar, Erin A. Bronstein

Abstract

Two longtime friends and fellow teacher educators discuss our journey to becoming educational researchers and teacher educators. Using reflective writing and recorded conversations, we employ autoethnographic methods to tell our stories based on distinct periods of our careers. Framing this chapter, we share vignettes from our friendship and work, we weave together our learning as teachers, graduate students and then as faculty. Through an analysis of our writing and conversations, we found both internal and external forces which helped us think critically about the role of community, identity, and intellectual work associated with teacher education and being a teacher educator.
