Fostering Entrepreneurship: An Analysis of Ecosystem Support Structures
Madhuchhanda Behera, Nirakar SwainEntrepreneurship has become an important driver of economic growth, innovation, and employment generation, especially in developing regions. This study examines the role of ecosystem support structures in fostering entrepreneurship with special reference to the state of Odisha. The research highlights how access to finance, infrastructure, policy support, training facilities, market linkages, and institutional guidance influence the establishment and growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). A combination of primary and secondary data has been used to understand the opportunities and barriers faced by entrepreneurs in the region. Primary data were collected from selected business owners through structured interviews, while secondary data were obtained from journals, reports, and government sources. The findings indicate that financial constraints, administrative delays, limited technological adoption, and inadequate business networks remain major challenges for new and existing enterprises. At the same time, government initiatives, entrepreneurship policies, and skill development programs are creating new opportunities for business expansion. The study concludes that a well-connected entrepreneurial ecosystem is essential for encouraging innovation, attracting investment, and generating sustainable employment. It recommends stronger policy implementation, easier access to credit, entrepreneurship education, and improved institutional coordination to build a more vibrant entrepreneurial environment in Odisha. The study’s results may be useful to policymakers, researchers, and aspiring entrepreneurs seeking to understand the factors shaping regional entrepreneurial development.
