Forming research skills of Chinese students through participation in a student scientific and practical conference

Based on the analysis of scientific literature, the authors substantiate the significance of student scientific and practical conferences as an effective means of developing research skills. The paper presents the results of a survey of Chinese students, revealing their motives, expectations, and main difficulties when engaging in research work. The authors systematize the types of challenges (academic, linguistic, personal, psychological, and professional) and suggest ways to overcome them. The pedagogical conditions for the effective use of scientific and practical conferences in working with Chinese students are disclosed. The materials of the article may be useful for teachers working with international students in higher education.
