Forestry development directions based on the priority digital technologies

NoskovThe multifunctionality of forest ecosystems, in other words the ability of forests to perform multiple ecosystem functions and provide multiple services at one time, is increasingly impacted by anthropogenic activities and climate change. Humanity needs to ensure reliable access not only to energy, water, and food, but also to natural resources, the most important of which are forest resources, primarily wood. National or regional economy must not only ensure socially sustainable and environmentally friendly production and consumption but, above all, guarantee access to these resources for future generations. Currently, digitalisation of national economy management processes is a priority for both development of the economy and the whole society. By the analysis results, the digitalisation level in the Komi Republic’s forestry sector is low, basic digital technologies cannot solve forestry issues but specialised digital technologies (GIS, digital platforms, big data collection and processing technologies, cloud services, and data centers) are not actually applied by forestry departments. The purpose of the study is to assess the current state of forestry digitalisation, the challenges the industry faces in transitioning to the Federal State Information System for Forest Management (FGIS LK), and the missing functionality. It also identifies areas for forestry development based on priority digital technologies and key indicators. The FGIS LK has been shown to have significant shortcomings, and a proposal is made to modernise it by expanding its functionality, aimed at increasing the investment attractiveness of the forestry sector.
