This work is devoted to the study of existing problems and directions for solving issues of food security of regions and the national economy in the current conditions of globalization and difficult political conditions, all this is an important tool of state economic policy, which has an impact on business and socio-economic development of the country in terms of food security. The research is aimed at studying the level of food security for the development of the national economy. The purpose of the study is to identify existing problems and find ways to solve them, as well as to develop recommendations for its improvement. The research uses methods of systematic and comparative analysis, synthesis, generalization, as well as inductive and deductive approaches. Over the past 25 years, the Russian agro-industrial complex has undergone a significant transformation, demonstrating a more than twofold increase in production. Russia has achieved complete self-sufficiency in basic foodstuffs, including grain products, meat, vegetable oil, and sugar. In addition, starting in 2020, Russia will become a net expert, and this already indicates its increasing role in the global food market. The Russian Federation has recently become the world's leading exporter of wheat, barley, sunflower oil and frozen fish. Despite the successes achieved, the country still depends on imports of vegetables, melons, milk and dairy products, as well as fruits and berries. To solve this problem, it is proposed to optimize land use, encourage consumption within reasonable standards, and develop domestic seed and livestock production.
