Fitness to fly and pre-travel advice

Jack Preece, Aaliya Goyal

In the UK, an estimated 84.6 million visits abroad are made by the general population each year, with that figure still on the rise. Travelling abroad can involve associated health risks. These can be related to the underlying health condition(s) of the individual, the mode of travel itself (e.g. flying) or from diseases endemic to the destination of travel. As such, patients may attend their GP practice for pre-travel advice, for immunisations, fitness to fly certification, assistance around their pre-existing co-morbidities, pregnancy or advice for medication use abroad. This article looks to provide a guided approach to these consultations.
