Evidence on the effects of ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure on skin color and its potential preventive intervention is scare. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial among 65 healthy college students suggested that short-term PM2.5 exposure may lead to darkening and yellowing of skin tone. The yellowness may be modulated by inflammatory responses and alleviated by fish oil supplementation.
