Olesya Burkaleva

The purpose of the work is to analyze film documents about the indigenous peoples of Chukotka as a historical source from 1930-1980. To implement the goal, methodological approaches were identified that make it possible to classify film documents related to the activities of the peoples of Chukotka from the collection of the Russian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents (hereinafter - RSAFPD), which makes it possible not only to reveal the specifics of the formation of the fund, but also to reconstruct the evolution of the screen image of the indigenous population in Soviet cinematography. In the Soviet era, visual sources, newsreels and documentaries, became the most important tool for representing the indigenous peoples of the North and including them in the ideological discourse of "development of the North" and socialist modernization. Film documents about the indigenous peoples of the Chukotka Autonomous Area of the 1930-1980s. at the same time record the traditional way of life and deep socio-cultural changes, but their archival and source research potential is still fragmented. The work analyzes film documents identified in the funds of the RSAFPD. The research materials are the funds of the RSAFPD, documentaries of the Soviet period. During the study, for the first time, film documents about the indigenous peoples of Chukotka were systematized, their classification by creation goals, types and topics was proposed. The practical significance of the study lies in the systematization of film documents about the indigenous peoples of Chukotka, which are stored in the RSAFPD. The developed classification according to the goals of creation, types and topics can subsequently be used to improve the scientific reference apparatus of the RSAFPD and optimize the search in it. In the future, the results of the work can be useful for the archival and cinematographic industries in further research of the northern peoples of the Russian Federation, as well as in museum activities - when creating documentary projects, exhibitions, excursion programs that are devoted to the culture and history of the small peoples of Russia.
