Fiercely Focused: How Women’s Lived Experiences Influence Their Approach to Leadership

Jana Hunzicker, Amanda Scott, Deborah Erickson, Rachel Borton

Abstract

This chapter explores how the lived experiences of women shape their approaches to leadership in higher education. Through qualitative inquiry and reflexive analysis, the authors present narratives that illustrate how personal history, emotional labor, and professional identity converge to influence leadership styles. Using phenomenological methods, the chapter reveals the power of introspection, community, and authenticity in cultivating effective leadership practices among women academic leaders.
