The PROMETEUS project aims to revolutionise nutrition for preterm infants by developing advanced real-time metabolic neuro-sensing technologies. For babies born very prematurely, nutrition is not simply about supporting weight gain. It must also sustain a brain that is developing rapidly outside the protective environment of the womb. Before birth, the placenta continuously regulates the delivery of oxygen and nutrients. Premature birth abruptly removes this sophisticated interface.
