Farmer's Perception toward protected cultivation in Haryana: A Sociological Analysis

Protected cultivation is a collection of methods in agriculture that are intended to cultivate crops under controlled environmental surroundings. The study was conducted in Hisar and Karnal districts of Haryana state to study farmers’ perceptions of protected cultivation. A total sample of 80 farmers was selected using a simple random sampling procedure. The results indicated that farmers highly perceived the statement that protected cultivation helped in the production of vegetables throughout the year (50.00%), growing off-season vegetables to get a better return 68.75 per cent and the level of perception regarding protected cultivation as perceived by the farmers was found to be 45 per cent, followed by a high level (42.50%). A significant correlation was found between annual income, land holdings and mass media exposure. A highly significant correlation was found between land under protected cultivation, extension contacts, socio-economic status and level of perception.
